Sugar Cookies

Sugar cookies decorated for the holidays!

While I bake sugar cookies mainly for the holidays, these cookies can be baked at any time during the year! These are perfect for birthday parties and showers!

Ingredients:

Sugar cookie frosted and ready!

  • 2 1/4 cups All-Purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoons salt

  • 1 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter (room temperature) (3/4 cup)

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 egg, room temperature

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1/4 teaspoons almond extract

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Directions:

As you can see some cookies have more brown on the edges than others. I baked these cookies for 7 minutes at 350 degrees.

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Mix the ingredients and set aside.

  2. In a different bowl, add butter and sugar and mix until completely smooth.

  3. Add the egg, vanilla, and almond extract; crank up the speed to high and beat your mixture together. As your ingredients get mixed, the dough may make its way to the sides of the bowl, make sure to scrape the sides frequently.

  4. Once your dough is completely mixed, lower the speed to low and slowly add the dry ingredients. Note: if the dough is too soft, keep mixing on low and add 1 extra tablespoon of flour. When your dough is completely mixed and it’s too soft or sticky, it’s ready.

  5. Place the dough in a bowl, cover, and place it in the fridge for at least 30 mins, max 1 hour.

  6. When you’re ready to roll out your dough, spread powdered sugar on your countertop and roll the dough.

  7. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

  8. Make sure your dough is about 1/4 inch thick before you start cutting out the shapes.

  9. Bake the cookies for 7- 9 minutes or until the edges are browned.

  10. Let the cookies cool for one hour before decorating.
